Why Eclipse Happen – Greek Myth
By: - Taha Kashif
Many
centuries ago there lived a young boy by the name of Draconis. He lived in the
city of Navatos. His hair was as black as the night and as soft and shiny as
silk, his eyes were lush green fields. But yet the enchanting city Draconis
lived in had a terrifying curse laid upon it. Titans, an infestation of them.
Walking around a wall that protected the city. Sadly it was weakening, the wall
crumbled with every pound and the titans grew constantly in strength. They were
mutants and rejections of nature. They were responsible for mass murdering’s
and two of them were draconis’ parents. He was full of vengeance but alas he
was powerless.
“Face
it Draconis, we can’t do anything to bring them back” his loving aunt and uncle
said. But what they didn’t know was that he was going to change the very world
they live in.
One
day draconis was taking a leisurely stroll in the bright and gaudy market when
he was kidnapped and thrown on a cart with such force that the cart started to
roll down the cobbled road. He could hear distant shouting and screaming and
then… silence. He ripped the bag and jumped out the moving cart, he slowly and
excruciatingly limped to a
cottage in the thick forest. As he neared the door,
he fainted. He woke up to the sound of “You’re awake.”
He
asked the hooded man who he was.
“My
name’s Jeb what’s yours?”
He
told Jeb his name and how he got here. Draconis also told him about how he
wanted revenge on the titans. Jeb told him that he had to meet Scorpius, the
king of the desert, for he is wise and
was once in a war with the titans.
"take
these, they will aid you in your battle" Jeb replied
Draconis
took the items they were: a char black scythe, a tattered reed map and a stone.
He thanked Jeb for his help and set off...
He
traversed mountaintops and scaled many landscapes. After many days he finally
reached a lush, green oasis in the middle of the desert. There was a villa made
of marble with jewel encrusted archways and perfectly square topiaries. He
advanced to the glossy, mahogany door and pushed it. With a creak it opened and
shut.
"WHO
DARE INTRUDE THE MANOR OF SCORPIUS!" Boomed a voice. It reverberated
around every wall and shook the glass chandelier. With a mighty boom a giant
and muscly scorpion landed in front of him. It was like staring death in the
face. Something was vibrating in his pocket;
he pulled it out and saw the rock engraved with 'SHOW ME TO THE GUARD' and
so he presented it. The monster stood up, grunted and gestured to a small
corridor under the shadow of the marble stairs. He entered through the vast
rusty gate and saw a pearl white stadium speckled with
dust,
there was a massive crowd cheering and chanting. He knew at once this was the legendary
trial of Scorpius. A giant green slobbering blob trudged to the center of the
Colosseum and raised its hands in the air.
"He must be a challenger!" thought Draconis
The
beast did a killing motion in his direction, which unnerved Draconis but he
wasn’t going to back down. He took out his scythe, a gong was sounded and the
fight began. The blob was strong but it was also slow. Draconis outmanoeuvred his attacks and finally
landed the killing blow. The whole arena was covered in a sickly green. All of
a sudden, one, single, slow clap was heard and Scorpius arose from the sea of
arachnids.
Scorpius
asked what Draconis wanted and he told him about his quest. Scorpious nodded
and raised its staff in a heroic gesture. A heavenly beam lit the sky with a
yellow glow.
“Enter
the beam and you will be ascended to the moon and back, find Arkus god of the
moon he will answer your questions. Scorpius announced over the whirr of the
portal. Draconis went in and felt an icy breeze cocoon him as he ascended to
the moon.
He
marched through the biting cold until he found the moon god, “Arken”. He
shouted to him, his voice reverberating in every crater and every chasm. The
colossal god whipped his head round and answered back “I KNOW YOUR QUEST AND
WHAT IT IS” If his voice had a colour, then Arcus successfully painted the moon
green. “TITANS DRAW POWER FROM SUN.THE MOON CAN BLOCK IT BUT I WANT SOMETHING”
“What
is it?” Draconis questioned
“TO
WALK ON EARTH EVERY FOUR HUNDRED YEARS AND FOR YOU TO TAKE THE
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MOON ON YOUR SHOULDERS WHILE I AM GONE”
“I
accept” he said in a solemn
And
from that day on every fourth descendant of this great family would protect the
world by submerging it in a solar eclipse. Next time you see one don’t be
afraid for it is a sign of hope.
